Groups at The River
The River provides groups for adults to help them live out their faith. The River provides study groups to learn more about God's Word, ministry groups to serve those who Jesus loves, life groups where group members love God and love one another, and fellowship groups. In addition, there are many volunteers who support various aspects of the church.
Study groups focus on Bible studies. The Bible is the inspired Word of God. God inspired the authors to write, and He inspires us to understand as we study the Bible. Bible studies are a great way to gather with others and walk through the pages of God's Word.
The River currently offers three study groups to choose from. One is at 9:30 am on Sunday mornings. Another is at 10:40 am on Sunday mornings, and the third is at 10:30 am on Wednesday mornings.
Ministry groups focus on serving others. There are currently four ministry groups at The River. Members of The River family are also involved in ministries sponsored by other organizations.
The Adopt-a-block ministry has adopted two blocks in the town of Frankford. This ministry group takes food to the residents and engages them in meaningful conversation so that we can learn more about them and their needs and they can learn more about The River. We are still developing relationships with the residents and we are excited to see where God takes this ministry.
The Prayer Team is another ministry at The River. This ministry group meets at the church on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7:00 pm. This group prays for the church, the staff, the volunteers, the members, and whatever and whomever else is on their hearts. The River strives to live out 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."
Fellowship with a Purpose is the third ministry group. Join in from 10am-noon the 1st and 3rd Tues of each month.
NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED, we will teach you to make a Loom Hat! Yarn and monetory donations are welcome.
The Hospitality Team manages the parking lot, welcomes visitors and regulars alike, staffs the information both, services the welcome area, provides seating assistance in the sanctuary, and whatever else needs to be done to make Sundays work.
Life groups date back to the house churches that the apostles planted in the early years of the church. These communities of believers were the church. As churches have become larger, it has become difficult for people to experience a community where others know you, love you, and care for you. The River has life groups so you can experience this kind of Christian community.
Life groups are places where group members love God and love one another. In John 13:34-35, Jesus gave his disciples a new command, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Francis Schaeffer said that our relationships with one another is our best witness to the world about the truthfulness of our faith. He said, “Our relationship with each other is the criterion the world uses to judge whether our message is truthful—Christian community is the final apologetic.”
The men meet on the second Saturday of every month at 8:00 am. They gather for good fellowship, breakfast, and conversation. It's a great way to meet other men in the church.
Seniors at the River (SAIL) is a fellowship group for those who are 55+. They have a variety of interesting activities throughout the year.
There are a number of support/leadership teams that help make The River run. They are:
- Worship team
- River Kids leadership team
- Momentum Youth leadership team
- Adopt-a-block leadership team
- Wellsprings of Freedom healing prayer team
- Seniors leadership team
- Staff and board members
- Volunteers who prepare and serve meals at events
- Volunteers who fix things and just help out around the church
As you can see, there are many ways to serve at The River. There is something for everyone, so join a ministry and enrich your life and the lives of those you serve.
